Originally the German storm gun was designed as an foot-soldiers support weapon, but the changing conditions of the battlefields of the Second World War farfetched it to adapt to perform a designate by ~ of different roles, most importantly in the same proportion that a tank destroyer, although the foot-soldiers support role was never wholly discarded.
